A unique, old-fashioned neighborhood sandwich joint, Potbelly Sandwich Shop has been serving up local charm, live music and wonderful food since 1977. Each store offers crispy hot sandwiches, hand-dipped milkshakes and homemade cookies in a warm, inviting atmosphere at a reasonable price. The Potbelly story began in a small antique store run by a young couple. In order to boost business, the couple decided to make homemade sandwiches to sell to customers. What began as a lark turned out to be a stroke of genius; the sandwiches were a hit. Soon people were visiting more often to taste the special, toasty sandwiches made around an authentic potbelly stove rather than browse for antiques. In 1996, fueled by a powerful combination of lively taste buds and the desire to spread the love of the growing ranks of Potbelly fans, proven entrepreneur Bryant L. Keil acquired Potbelly Sandwich Shop. Since then, Potbelly has grown from one store in Chicago to more than 270 shops around the country. Potbelly is dedicated to preserving the individuality of each store to keep from becoming just another fast-food chain.
